A: Contract electronics manufacturing (CEM) is the outsourcing of electronics assembly and production to a specialist third-party manufacturer. A CEM like NOTE UK handles everything from PCB assembly (PCBA) and box build through to functional testing, component sourcing, and 3PL fulfilment – allowing OEMs to focus on product design, sales, and customer relationships while we manage production. NOTE UK operates as a full-scope CEM across six UK sites, certified to ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and AS9100.

A: PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) is the process of populating a bare PCB with electronic components – using surface mount technology (SMT), through-hole assembly, or a combination of both – and soldering them in place. Box build is the next stage: it integrates the completed PCBA with mechanical enclosures, wiring harnesses, displays, connectors, power supplies, and other sub-assemblies to produce a complete, tested, deployable product. NOTE UK offers both services independently or as part of a full turnkey programme managed under a single contract.

A: NOTE UK’s PCBA capability covers SMT, through-hole assembly, and mixed-technology boards. Our process includes solder paste application, automated component placement, reflow soldering, selective soldering for through-hole components, and AOI as standard. X-ray inspection is available for BGA and hidden-joint verification. We apply IPC-A-610 Class 2 for standard programmes and IPC Class 3 for high-reliability applications. Lead-free manufacturing to RoHS and REACH is standard; leaded processes are available where specified.

A: NOTE UK supports the complete production spectrum – from low-volume engineering prototypes and NPI builds through to high-volume serial production. Our six UK sites provide scalable, multi-site capacity, allowing customers to grow volumes without switching manufacturer. Our Haddenham facility at 37,000 sq ft is specifically configured for high-volume box build and system integration.

A: NOTE UK is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. We apply IPC-A-610 workmanship standards across all PCBA programmes – IPC Class 2 for standard applications, IPC Class 3 for high-reliability programmes. Cable assemblies are manufactured to IPC/WHMA-A-620 where specified.

A: Yes. We manufacture a wide range of cable assemblies including ribbon cables, wire-to-board assemblies, multi-core harnesses, coaxial assemblies, and overmoulded configurations. All assemblies are verified through continuity testing, hi-pot / dielectric withstand, insulation resistance, and pull-force testing. Because cables are produced in-house alongside PCBA and box build, we can co-design harness routing with enclosure layout – reducing rework and improving first-pass yield.
